Push and SMS notifications are available for TripIt Pro members on Android and iOS.
Apple's Push notification feature is a way for an app to send information to your phone (via a badge, alert, or pop up message) even when the app isn't in use. For example, if you have a sports app with push notifications enabled, that app can send you the latest score of your favorite team even if the app isn't running. The notification will send you a message, and when you touch it, it will direct you back to the app for more information.
Android's Push notifications for phones are very similar to iOS, but without the badging on the home screen icon.
- Unlike SMS, Push notifications use data so don't incur SMS charges or allowances and only require a data connection (wi-fi, cellular).
- Push can be used where SMS can't e.g. TripIt doesn't have SMS alert delivery in Canada or Mexico. Using Push notifications resolves the alert issue for users in these countries.
- To receive Push notifications you will need to opt-in. At first use you will be asked for permission to allow Push notifications.
- PUSH notifications are not available for Blackberry (non-Android OS) or other non-iOS or Android devices.
Activate PUSH: Android and iOS: Settings (under More) > PUSH Notification (on/off).
Users can add SMS (text message) alerts through their iOS and Android devices. Please see below.
