Inbox Sync automatically adds travel plans from your email inbox to your TripIt itinerary

Simply connect your Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook, Microsoft 365, Hotmail, and Yahoo! Mail inboxes with your TripIt account. Once connected, your travel plans are automatically added to your TripIt account. You never have to remember to forward an email again. Inbox Sync can be activated in the TripIt app and TripIt website.

In the TripIt app:

  1. Tap the 'Account' tab (bottom right of the screen),
  2. Tap your name located at the top of the 'Account' screen.
  3. In the 'Email Addresses' section, tap the email address you wish to turn on Inbox Sync.
  4. Enable the 'Inbox Sync' toggle.

In the TripIt website

  1. Click your 'Profile' icon (top right of any page).
  2. Click 'Account' > 'Profile'.
  3. In the 'Email Addresses' section, click on the email address(es) you wish to turn on Inbox Sync.
  4. Click the blue 'Activate Inbox Sync' button.

Need to reactivate Inbox Sync?

If Inbox Sync was deactivated for any reason and you're having trouble turning it back on, removing TripIt's access may help.

Google

  1. Visit your Google Account's third-party connections page.
  2. Select 'TripIt' and remove access.
  3. Re-enable Inbox Sync.

Microsoft
  1. Under 'Apps and services that can access your data', find 'TripIt' and click 'Edit'.
  2. Click 'Remove these permissions'.
  3. Re-enable Inbox Sync.

Yahoo

  1. Visit Yahoo.com and click your profile icon (top right).
  2. Select 'Account Info' > 'Recent activity'
  3. Under 'Connected apps', find TripIt and click 'Details'.
  4. Click 'Remove Access'.
  5. Re-enable Inbox Sync.

Unable to activate Inbox Sync?

Google

If you have Google's Advanced Protection Program enabled, this feature may prevent third-party apps, including ours, from connecting with your inbox. The only workaround is to disable Advanced Protection. If you'd like to keep this feature, you can always add trips by forwarding your confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com.

Microsoft 365

Your company can block connections to applications such as TripIt. If your company has blocked TripIt, you will see a message similar to this when trying to enable Inbox Sync:

This means you will not be able to turn on Inbox Sync on your Microsoft 365 email address. Your company controls whether you see this message. You can select a different email address to add to your TripIt account or, as an alternative to Inbox Sync, you can always forward your travel confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com.

Notes

  • Inbox Sync will not give TripIt access to your email account password.
  • Inbox Sync is an optional feature you elect to authorize and is not required to use TripIt.
  • Once authorized, import is not immediate. You can expect your travel bookings to be imported within 24 hours
  • At sign up, TripIt will look for travel-related emails you received in the last 7 days, regardless of travel date (future or past).
  • Please make sure your travel confirmation emails are in your main inbox and not a folder or label.
