Why we have specific permission requirements for our mobile apps.
Any permission requirement for our app is related to specific features. Our Android and iOS apps ask for Calendar permissions solely to allow users to subscribe to their TripIt calendar feed from their device. Read Sync Settings allows us to be sure we do not add duplicates of our own calendar entries.
Contacts refers to the Share functionality on your app that allows you to pick any email address from the address book stored locally on your phone so that you can share your itineraries with anyone you wish. Please rest assured that we do not store the contents of your address book.
Pro features such as Go Now and Terminal and Gate reminders need your location set to 'Always Allow' and 'Precise Location'. Go Now uses your location to notify you when you should leave for the airport and Terminal and Gate reminders give you updated departure and gate information as you approach the airport.
Android Notes:
Bluetooth: We added Bluetooth to the list of permissions so that our app can be paired with Bluetooth devices.
Direct Call: This permission request is related to one of our Pro features: the ability to receive travel alerts as text messages. Google requires us to ask all users to review the permissions. This is an opt-in only option that is available only to our Pro app users but that is within the embedded free and non free version of our app whether you're Pro or non-Pro. The permission is required by Google and by law guidelines.
Wifi connection information: A wifi connection is needed for a number of Pro features such as Go Now, Navigator, and flight statuses.
iOS Notes:
The following information is never shared outside of TripIt.
- Sensitive Info: There is an option to add personal details to the Travel Documents and Contacts section. Using this feature is optional and its details are only accessible to the user.
- Identifiers: Every TripIt account has its own unique account ID.
- Purchases/Purchase history: This is specific to users who have purchased a premium TripIt Pro subscription.
